A Farewell From Little Things Matter

Todd Smith

After answering the questions in 10 Life Guiding Decisions more than a month ago, I have decided to lead my life in a new direction.

Since launching this blog on Jan 11, 2010, I have written 220 lessons and published my book Little Things Matter, 100 Ways to Improve Your Life Today.

I started this journey feeling called to help others. By using my gift of teaching, I have shared the knowledge gained over my 30-year entrepreneurial career. I hope you have found value in my lessons.

I want to thank each of you who have been loyal followers. I truly appreciate you and the way you put your credibility on the line to recommend my blog, podcasts, and Facebook page to your friends, family, and colleagues.

Because of your endorsements, this blog grew to more than 12,200 subscribers, and my Facebook page grew to 25,000 followers. My podcasts ranked Number 21 in America’s Top 100 Podcasts and Number 1 in the personal and professional development space. Thank you so much!

After having built a Direct Sales organization over the last 21 years of more than 500,000 people and writing these lessons over the last 14 months, I am convinced that less than three percent of the population in the United States is intentional about growing and developing themselves on a daily basis.

Most people know the “little things” they need to do to get better, but they’re just not willing to do them with consistency. It is also my firm belief that less than one percent of our population strives for excellence to be the best of the best at what they do.

Becoming the best at whatever is important to you is not about how smart you are, where you came from, or what natural gifts you possess. Rather, it’s about doing the little things that are both easy to do and easy not to do.

You have learned about some of life’s most important lessons. Now I challenge you to put them to work in your life. Become a keen observer of the little things. Start looking for the little things you can do to be a better parent, spouse, friend, employee or employer.

I encourage each of you to continue learning, growing, and challenging yourself to get better. Remember, your ultimate success will come from the compounding effect of small daily improvements.

If you are committed to personal growth, the best resource for your ongoing development is Success Magazine. For less than three dollars a month, you can have access to some of the best personal and professional development content available in the world today.

I believe in each of you and know that you can live the life you desire.

I plan to keep my blog and Facebook page up by occasionally sending you one of the lessons I am learning on my new journey.

I want to thank my amazing wife Joy and all my family and friends for their overwhelming support. I want to thank my Aunt Mary for her editing of my posts, Ronnie Weston as my collaborator on my book, my daughter Hannah who edited every podcast, my son Gerrid who was my main advisor, my son-in-law Josh who ran my blog and Facebook page, my daughters Danielle and Jessica and my son Jake for their love and encouragement. And lastly I want to thank Success Books for their confidence in me and for publishing my book.

If my lessons have had an impact on your life, I would enjoy reading your stories in the comment section below this post. I wish you the best life has to offer!

You can achieve anything that is important to you, if you will focus on and master the little things that matter.

    Todd,

It is hard to believe it has been over a year and several months that you launched your blog. I recall being drawn quickly into your
words of wisdom. Often, I felt as if you were speaking only to me; your capability to do so is a testament to your years of connecting
the little things that ALL people can understand. Thank you for challenging me in so many ways. As you stated so perfectly, "it’s about doing the little things that are both easy to do and easy not to do."

After all, in the end, it IS the little things that define us, separate us, unite us, challenge us, hurt us, marvel us.....
the only thing BIG is how you will be missed!

    With much gratitude & love,
    Mary

  • Hello Todd My Friend,

When I got back to the States, I hit the ground running as ACN just finished airing the second two hour appearance on Donald Trump’s “Celebrity Apprentice” just last Sunday. I’ve had two huge Viewing Parties in two time zones on 03-27-11. Since then it’s been Presentations, P.B.R.’s, B.O.M.’s and Training Events.

This has given me time to reflect upon and finally respond to your well thought worldwide decision to go in a new direction. I know you are making the right choice, because I know the type of person you are. I’m sure that many will continue to benefit from your mind’s production in both past and future projects.

I’m looking forward to you sharing your new insights and any upcoming projects you have in mind when we get together here in Las Vegas come October.

My only regrets are for those of the 97-99% that need your teachings the most weather they know it or more likely not. The “Little Things Matter” LESSONS need to be learned at an early age if our country is to bounce back in today’s competitive world. Change is good!

I googled "small daily changes" today and it led me to you. When I "liked" your FB page, I read your farewell post from March 15. Nevertheless, I look forward to buying your book and reading it and also reading old posts. I wish you well and I can tell that you have inspired many people just by their responses and comments. At any rate, thank you for the work you have done for others. Wishing you health, happiness, and contentment with your loved ones. :)

    hi Mr Todd,
it's very sad on my part if you'll stop posting on this wonderful blog since u are greatly influencing my life. Im hoping that u will continue to post great articles here.
  • I want to thank all of you who took your time to leave such thoughtful comments. I had more than 150 comments left on my Facebook page and more than 200 direct emails. It feels good to know that the time I spent writing these posts was appreciated.

As I said in my farewell post, I will occasionally share with my subscribers some of the "life lessons" I am learning on my journey.

Remember----If you will be intentional about doing the little things each day to become a better person, you will see improvement in every part of your life.

If you believe you can, you can! If you believe you can't, you can't!

I wish each of you the best!

  • As stated many times already, I'm very saddened to see this excellent resource come to an end, Todd. You have been an inspiration and mentor to me, although we have never met ... and for that, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Best wishes on your new path of action, my friend.

    Dear Todd,

You have been such an inspiration and a blessing to me! You have changed my life in ways which words are void of expressing. Thank you Sir!

My heart froze when I saw your farewell post; but instantaneously, my heart silently uttered a very sincere appreciation for your having left me (us) all such a wealth of precious gifts. Your lessons have taught me how to be a better person in every aspect of my life.

I'm from Jamaica and I often share you post on my Facebook Wall and other media. I have especially imparted to my sons many of the life- and self-enhancing lessons which you have taught me.

I am pleased that you will leave you blog and Facebook pages open, as these will remain as valuable sources in improving our lives.

I wish for you the very best on your new journey. May the Lord continue to guide and inspire you. May He grant you the strength that you need for the paths that you will take.

I look forward to reading about this novel voyage of yours.

    God speed!

Your blog and Cycle of Duplication CD's have made a profound impact in our lives! Your personal advice still echos in my head daily. My climb up the mountain is a little bit at a time, and there are many valleys, but your words will help me keep climbing!

Thanks, and God bless you on your journey.

I am sad that you blog is ending. I have been truly blessed by what you have shared. I pray for God's blessings upon you as you focus on a new area of your life.

Thank you for all the wonderful emails and lessons. I was sad to see that you won't be writing anymore but understand that we all need to keep growing and moving on. I wish you the best of luck and I will continue to re-visit your blog and read. Thanks for everything!
  • Francis
Todd - Thank you and good luck. I have been a passive reader of your blog for a while now. The Little Things that you have shared are invaluable and have made significant differences in my professional and personal life.

    Thank you!

Ya know Todd I have had the hardest 5 years of my life. Just starting facebook 1 1/2 years ago I found your page right away. In the midst of my sadness and hopelessness in mankind I found your inspirational articles wonderful. You had a contest and because I wasn't a subscriber of something you did not notice my entry. I was absolutely blown away when a few months later you made the connection and contacted me. I have lost faith in mankind to do the right thing and you had done the right thing. I soooo appreciated that and have subscribed to your posts ever since. Thank You for your sincerity and I am not surprised that you are on your way to a path of further enlightenment. Good luck on your journey and may be peace be with you!
  • Na
Todd, I am so sorry to hear the news, I really liked your lessons, they were excellent. I created a list of little things that matter for my job and have been following it based on your essay. Insted of only building "to do list" now I also have "how-to-do list".

"Will you challenge yourself to step up your game and make the list of 100 little things you can do to reach the top of the pay scale? Or will you say I know what I need to do, blow off this lesson and continue doing what you’ve always done?"

I am getting the copy of your book for my brother!
  • ZenRider
Any thoughts to continuing the blog with new posts collaboratively from you existing audience?
  • Todd,

I had to read this twice. Once really fast because I couldn't believe the headline and once slowly to let it sink in. I have thoroughly enjoyed your blog and your podcasts! I have shared the lessons you so thoughtfully taught here with just about everyone I know. I do rejoice with you that you feel this part of your mission is complete and that new doors are opening for you, but I don't want you to worry that such a small number of people seem to want to better themselves. Those of us that are focused on bettering ourselves and helping others need to keep our lights shining bright and be living examples for those that need us (even if they don't know it yet). To that end, I hope you continue to lead by your great example and let your light shine in whatever your next project is. Don't be discouraged!

    Good luck and God bless,
    Tab

Since I begin reading this blog and recommending it to others, I have never commented, a silent follower I was. How painful that I just found my voice with this farewell. Thank you for all the wisdom nuggets you have shared all these while.
  • Lannie
A sadness overcame me upon receiving you farewell. I want to thank you for making it fun and inspiring me to be the better person I can be. I will be looking forward to any updates you care to share. Godspeed, Marlene

It's been great to read all those inspiring, uplifting and encouraging words. You are definitely in that one percent bracket. I'd be curious if that tour of India changed any of your perspectives. Good luck to your next adventure.

When I read the title of today's entry I was hoping against hope it wasn't what I thought it was. But alas, it's true.Yes, sad to see you go, Todd, but happy that you're happy. Can't thank you enough for such a great blog. Much success to you and yours... and keep in touch! : )

Todd, I would be lying if I said that I would not miss reading your posts everyday but I am excited for you & the new endeavors that lie ahead. There is no doubt in my mind that it will be meaningful! I am grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from you and to be the recipient of your giving spirit. I am also thankful that I have your "100 lessons" in print ( and on CD) so I can continue to revisit them and do fine-tuning. God bless you & your family! I hope that our paths will cross again! Yours in Positivity, Lanette

Thank you for your leadership through your podcasts. I wish you the very best on your new venture Todd.
  • Hi Todd,

thanks for sharing this thought-provoking "final" post. Congratulations to the success you achieved with your blog and Facebook in a very short period of time. I learned a lot from you and I am glad we met each other.

Thanks and all the best for you and your family.

    Take care

    Todd,
You have impacted me greatly as well as so many others! I truly appreciate every lesson - even the ones that "whopped me upside the head!" OK - especially those! Thanks for your hard work and for writing the book. I will continue to use your book and CD set for years to come.
  • Come on Todd, do not joke like that. Your humor this morning is blacker than my
    early morning coffee.

OK, I am the one trying to take it with some attempt at humor.

My jaw dropped when I read your announcement.

Although for the last month I have been focusing on some pressing
issues and have not left comments I have not missed one post of yours ever
since I got to your blog about 11 or 12 months ago. I have read multiple times
most of them and commented in most, even if I could not contribute much
but just to thank you each time you shared your experiences.

I have benefited enormously from your time and energy investment by
finding priceless guidance in my path to an improved life.

I honestly and full heartedly thank you for such a contribution to my
life and I am sure to the life of many.

I will miss not finding that e-mail on Tue and Th morning and for
sure it will take some adjustment.

Wish you the best always and you know that you have a friend in me.
    You have my contact info.

Best regards and eternal thanks for your generosity.

As I wipe tears off my face, I ask,"Why am I reacting this way?" Apparently you had a bigger impact on my life than I realized. I've shared your website with all my family and friends, a first. So THANK YOU TODD! You are very influential and effective. God Bless you on your journey, as you continue to improve the lives of others. You certainly have improved mine.

    Hi Todd,

I got introduced to LTM just a couple of weeks ago. Your pearls have made a sea of changes in both my work and home life. It is hard to implement things, easy to hear. You are a true inspiration. I am extremely saddened that you are not going to post anymore. For people who cant afford all the books and personality development courses, LTM is a boon. You have the rare gift of helping big changes happen with simple soutions. I hope you continue to share your adventures and pearls with us from wherever you are. I wish you success in your new pursuits with a happy but heavy heart. Thank you.
  • Msncjackson
OH NO!! I'm sorry to hear you are moving on, but I'm excited to know you will continue to blog about your success stories.

I recently joined LTM and within 3 months, I have improved my horrible working relationship and promoted to a rewarding team within the company; saved money by following the self control blog and following through with ideas that matter most to me. Thank you for improving my life and I'm sure other followers. Your statements are true, we are intentional about self improvement, but discipline in the areas that matter most, we should focus and build to see our dreams come true.

Consider your one year objective measured to success, well done!
  • Sharafat (Joseph)
    Hey Todd,

I have no words to say but Holy Prophet said to have a look at the face of an aalim (learned man) is dearer to God than 60 years of worship. And you are one of them, an inspiration for me.

I dedicate this to you and now looking forward to meet you as soon as you can manage.

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be ever at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face
and the rain fall softly on your fields.
    And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of his hand.

Whether I be far or near, may I hear only good news of you all.

    A sunbeam to warm you,
    A moonbeam to charm you,
A sheltering angel, so nothing can harm you.

May you have warm words on a cool evening, a full moon on a dark night, and the road downhill all the way to your door.

May your pockets be heavy and your heart be light,
May good luck pursue you each morning and night.

    Thank you so much.
  • Kate
Dear Todd, I am so sad to read this last post! I will be eternally grateful to LTM for emphasising the little things that matter and for helping me realise how important they are for achieving any kind of success. Thank you LTM. I will miss your posts greatly.

I wish you success and God's guidance towards your new direction.
  • Mary Chittick
You will be missed, Todd. I have enjoyed your insites on a daily basis. You make a big difference in this world. Wish you the very best always. Thank you.
  • Your lessons have been a valuable resource and I will be looking back on them from time to time as I fine tune my own life. Best wishes to you for success in whatever new path you undertake. Your frequent teachings will be missed.
  • Althea Myers
I am extremely saddened that you have decided to end your regular posts. I have become very dependent on them to help me in my daily interactions with others and just to keep a disciplined approach to the task of personal development. I have read many others but, without trying to flatter you, I have seen or read none other that has come as close to the principles espoused by Jim Rohn. I intend to get a copy of your book, but until then I have printed copies of each day's blog and bound them to make a book of my own that has now become my personal development reference text. I have thoroughly enjoyed your posts and have benefited significantly from them. I wish you all the best as you move on to another phase of your journey. Thanks and God bless!
  • Itsamariah
I'm really sad that you won't be having LTM. Ever since I found LTM, I've been seeking ways to improve myself and try to master the little things as you have constantly reiterate on your blogs. Good luck Todd with everything. Thank you for sharing your life and your life lessons with us. They all have made an impact on me as well as other people.
  • Todd, I became a fan ever since I saw your Mixergy interview. I'm bummed, but I understand. I hope the best for you and your new endeavors! Take care.
  • Congratulations, dad, on all that was accomplished through this blog! Many people will benefit from your words of wisdom for years to come.

  • LivewithFlair
Bravo! Thank you for all your work. I'm inspired by your advice about becoming the best at what I do. For me, it's teaching grammar (and in particular my love of the semicolon!) I'm self-publishing my grammar book, "How to Write with Flair," this month on my blog. I used to think this wasn't important enough work, but I've realized this year that God made me someone who loves grammar! Sure, it's nerdy, but it's the real me. http://livewithflair.blogspot....
  • Bevlife
Todd, I have only recently found your blog but have found your insights a great source of hope and clarity. I am grateful you will keep the blog available as I have much to consider from the practical wisdom you have shared. Most recently the post How to Make Critical Decisions has actually restored my sanity in how to deal with a loved one who is self-destructing. I would guess my life situation would not have put me in your target audience but I ended up in the audience nonetheless. Thank you and my God bless your new direction. I am confident He will continue to use you and your gifts.
  • Gouri
Congratulations on your success so far and good luck on your new (ad)ventures, Todd Smith! I'll keep going back to your FB page to read some of your nuggets. Thank you for sharing your keen insights... and while I may never be in the 3% that follow your advice, I'll keep trying.
  • Gakungu
Many many thanks to you, Todd for the insights you've shared in this blog. I always looked forward to listen to what you have to share each week. I wish you all the best in every commendable thing you do in your life time.
  • Jeffrey Neubauer
Sincere thanks for all of your insights!

I genuinely appreciate your time and effort spent on this magnificent project.

I've compiled seven recordings, which contain 30-35 minutes worth of your podcasts that I listen to during my daily workout! As you've recommended, an approved multi-tasking opportunity.

I wish you nothing but SUCCESS and HAPPINESS as you choose to take your journey on a different path.
  • Todd, I recently became aware of your tremendously valuable and insightful writings, through Twitter. I agree with the others, in the saddness that you will not be continuing to write. However, I want to wish you all the best in your new journey, which is what life is all about. Best of luck to you and your family. Thank you for the many great words of wisdom that you have shared. Your book and these posts are so valuable!
  • Ravi
    Dear Todd,

I am really sorry to read the Farewell Message. Your messages inspired me to continue believing in humanity!

Please keep in touch with us, tell us what new direction you are taking, and write a book about your experiences there. We would love to read it.

    Warm Regards, Ravi

    Hi Todd,

This is quiet a big shock for me.

I'm a big fan of LTM and have been constantly visiting this blog since middle 2010. I have learned a lot from you and yes, it's been a good ride following your next post every other day/week.

I would like to wish you all the best in your new direction. I will still visiting this blog and recommend it to my friends. Do keep us posted on your updates and news.

    Many thank Todd!

Thanks for the many 'golden nuggets' you shared in the past 14 months.

Blessings to you and your family,

Hi Todd. I discovered LTM through Facebook a couple of months ago. To say the least, the knowledge I've gained through your lessons have been overwhelming. I've developed tremendously as a result. Just like the late Jim Rohn, you possess a rare gift in using otherwise mundane life situations to teach valuable life lessons. It now saddens me that these will not be flowing as frequent as they have been in the past. My request is that you do not shut the LTM blog since I regularly visit it for personal development.

My prayer to you Todd is that may God's blessings follow you in your new adventures. I look forward to new lessons from you.
  • SM
    Todd,
I too have been mostly a "silent observer," though I have made a pittance amount of posts before. Thanks for each and every lesson you've sent out. Each has been a valuable lesson and helped me a little bit more. I wish you luck in your new path in life, and will eagerly anticipate future lessons.
  • Hi Todd, I just wanted to say that when I read your farewell this morning, I was saddened to think that you won't be sharing your knowledge and life through this format any longer. I was not one for leaving comments, but I shared your blog with our staff in my insurance business as well as my Network Marketing business. This blog will be missed by many people but I agree with what you wrote in the farewell. I wish for you a great new chapter in your life and I look forward to still following you on Facebook. You are truly a man that cares about helping others. God bless your endeavors and stay in touch.
  • Theresabroughton
You matter ~ THANK YOU for the information and inspiration. I will personally miss you and your blog. You are a life changer. Best wishes for a lifetime of health and happiness : )

I have been a fan for not more than a month, But have benefited greattly from it. I look at people, situation and life with more porpose. I am not a big social person, but I have been force to do it and your lesson have made me more confidence and aware of people and myself. Good luck on your new path.
p.s. I looked forward to your blog because it was full of great things that I could put to practice and see the result develop.
  • Wow, I must say this was the shock of the morning! However, I do understand that life moves fast and that one has to take advantage of opportunities as they come about. I speak from the heart when I say that I appreciate all you have done. I appreciate your lessons, your wisdom and more importantly your friendship. Your “Little Things Matter” blog and book have been a tremendous blessing. The seeds you have sown will last a life time. I for one have shared many of your lessons with my friends and colleagues and loved ones. I could go on and on but you said it best in your “Little Things Matter” book when you indicated that you had a purpose. You had a plan and you executed that plan perfectly. Know it is time for those of us that found the value in your efforts to pick up the ball and run with it. Thanks again Todd and good luck, I wish you all the best in your new journey.
  • Todd, thank you so much for sharing your time, gifts, and talents with me! You added to my life richly. I know that God is elevating you to another level and that great things are in store for you! You've sown seeds into the lives of many, many people. May you reap an abundant harvest. God Bless YOU! Agape!
  • Todd,

Thank you so much for ALL that you have given to me through the knowledge and wisdom offered through 14 months of posting! Little Things Matter has enriched my life and given me a greater level of awareness in how I live out my daily life and the decisions I make as a result.

I can't even imagine how many hours you put into writing every day and then the hours devoted to the book on top of that! You have sacrificed much to give of yourself and bless others. I am very appreciative.

I am so excited for you and this new chapter!

Congratulations on all that you have achieved through LTM!!!

    Love and Blessings,
    Jessica

Reading your post today I felt I was losing a close friend. I have shared your posts and books with so many persons I have mentored and guided in my career and personal life, even last night I was giving a colleague a copy of your book and asking him to read and learn. Todd many thanks for all you have done and I wish you all the very best on your life journey
  • Janelle Helling
Todd, thank you for your hard work in providing the blog, the book and the facebook presence. You've done an unbelievable amount of work this past year. Your work has helped many, even if you are not directly aware of it -- like the books I've ordered from your site to give each of my kids. I wish you the best in your new life direction, and sincerely wonder what it is that you've chosen to focus on now. I have no doubt that you will be successful, whatever it is. All the best to you and your family.
  • Anne
I am so thankful for all you've done and wish you all the best for your new journey. I was looking forward to listening your podcasts and have learned from them. Thank you again!!

Thank you for your insightful posts and continued success on your journey.

Oh My I'm kind of stunned! I've been listening to your podcasts every morning (I bought the audio book) have only been "with you" since October, but you've made a difference in my outlook! Wow. This will take a while to sink in... but Good Luck! and keep us posted!
  • As a huge fan of LTM, I'm sad to say it's my first time posting a comment. I guess I've been one of the ones benefiting silently from the lessons, but I just had to post something after reading your farewell post. I'm not even sure how I stumbled upon your blog, but I'm glad I did. I was pleasantly surprised at how well each article was written, considering they dealt with such personal topics. Other than from Lifeskills 411, I had never heard many of these critical topics discussed. Todd, I applaud you and hope that you will continue to bless us with your life lessons as you see fit.

I'm thankful and wish you huge success in your next endeavor. As an LTM fan I can say that you have overachieved delivering top notch content based in your life long learned lessons and I greatly appreciate them each and one of them, there is TONS to learn in here and I revisit them often.

I appreciate that you are keeping this up because whether there is three percent or even one out there , this is content that never gets old and it'll definitely help many people throughout the years to come.

Many thanks Todd! Blessings to you and your family and keep us posted with your next adventure.

    That's a pity, Todd.
I enjoyed not only reading your blog, but also working on it since the first days of LTM.
    Best wishes!
